Based in the heart of Newmarket, the home of horse racing, our high quality facilities at Sackville Stables offer full, year-round training to enable horses to achieve maximum fitness levels for both jump and flat racing. With a passion for excellence, both horses and their owners, benefit from a rare level of personal service.
The Ryan family has been successfully training racehorses for three generations. John’s grandfather, Mick Ryan, was a stud groom at Woodland and Plantation Studs in Newmarket (cared for top sire Hyperion). Michael Ryan, John’s father, apprenticed at Stanley House Stables under George Colling before enjoying success on the East coast of America. In 1976 he set up Cadlland Stables in Newmarket. Michael trained many notable horses including Aldora, Katie’s, Royal Heroine, Osric and Motivator.
John Ryan was an accomplished jockey with extensive experience both on the flat and over jumps before starting as assistant trainer with M. Ryan and then J. Poulton where his winning success continued. Now with his own stables at the historic Sackville House, John’s passion and accomplishments continue.
